TL;DR: IFA 2026 in Berlin showcased practical AI for the home — washers that see fabrics, earbuds that translate and draft emails, and TVs that hang like art — alongside new audio, Wi-Fi, and robotics concepts.
Berlin hosted Europe's largest tech fair
IFA 2026 brought more than 200,000 visitors to Berlin for Europe's largest technology trade show, according to The Verge. The main public program ran September 4-8, while exhibitor activity and press previews began earlier in the week.
According to Gadget Review, the 2026 edition occupied the Messe Berlin halls from September 2 through 8 and marked the fair's 102nd year. That report counted more than 1,900 exhibiting companies, with nearly half of them from China. Xiaomi set up its first-ever IFA booth, while Samsung left the Messe floor for the first time in 35 years.
Coverage published September 14 by Euronews described the theme as "The Future is Now" and said thousands of brands attended. That report emphasized connected everyday devices rather than isolated products, pointing to TCL's "AI-inspired Life" concept combining AI, energy solutions and next-generation displays. It also noted mobility, health and wellbeing products and humanoid robots that played football in a RoboCup competition.
The Verge reported its team was on the ground in Berlin to test hardware launches in person and collect announcements, hands-on demos and videos in a single hub updated September 15.
Laundry and dish care gained cameras and sensors
Home appliances were among the most-watched categories.
Gadget Review highlighted the Haier Vision 15 washing machine, which places a camera inside the door. The camera identifies fabric type, flags mixed colors, monitors foam levels and spots an errant red sock, then revises the cycle before damage occurs. Nine sensors and Haier's AI Direct Motion motor execute the wash once the camera system makes its assessment. The report framed fabric identification as the key advance, noting that weight and water sensors cannot determine whether a load is wool or cotton.
For renters without plumbing access, the same outlet spotlighted the Lissome R1 countertop dishwasher. The unit is 280mm wide, about eleven inches, and uses a 3.6-liter tank filled by hand, so it requires no water inlet or installation. Inside, it holds three full EU place settings, or 34 items. The company describes Sweeping Jet Technology with two rotating lower arms plus two vertical arms, totaling 32 jets at 100,000 Pa. Quick Wash completes in 15 minutes, while Smart Wash uses an AI turbidity sensor to read grease levels and dose detergent. According to Gadget Review, the product arrived in Berlin after a Kickstarter campaign that raised around $350,000 and is scheduled to reach selected European markets by the end of this year, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
Floor care also drew attention. A roundup from TechRadar listed iRobot's Roomba Duo as a two-in-one robot vacuum that carries a smaller robovac, Dreame's Aqua20 Pro Ultra Roller X Complete with steam cleaning for hard floors, and the Roomba Max 875 Combo, which mists hard floors to loosen dried-on dirt and grease.
Earbuds and headsets pushed translation and ANC
Audio was another crowded field, from work-focused earbuds to gaming headsets and sleep monitors.
Gadget Review named the Viaim Rise among its standouts. The wireless earbuds record, transcribe and translate speech, covering 78 languages and 145 accents, then pass confirmed tasks to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini so a call can become a drafted follow-up email. The hardware uses an 11mm and 6mm dual-driver setup with LDAC and LHDC support, hybrid active noise cancellation and a bone-conduction unit in the microphone array for calls. Recording can start with one bud still in the case, and side latches physically raise the buds. The same report says Viaim received two IFA Innovation Awards, for Best in Audio and as a Best in Design honoree, and announced a Bose engineering partnership during the same week. It adds that an Indiegogo campaign opened September 8, with super early bird pricing at $259 compared with a $399 retail price.
For gamers, the same publication described the Audeze Maxwell 2 ANC as the first full-range planar headphone with active noise cancellation that keeps the same frequency response whether ANC is on or off. That consistency matters for positional audio, the report noted, because footsteps must sound in the same place every round. The headset uses 90mm planar drivers, offers up to 35dB of reduction and provides 40 hours of battery life, dropping to 35 hours with ANC running. The PlayStation version costs $429 and the Xbox version costs $449, each $100 more than the standard Maxwell 2. Weight is 560 grams.
Value audio also appeared. A highlights report from High-Tech Mag described Beyerdynamic's Aventho Y over-ear headphones with 90 hours of battery life, up to 60 hours with ANC active, Bluetooth 6.0 multipoint, magnetic earpads and a replaceable battery, priced at $149.99. The same report described EarFun Air Pro 5 earbuds with an 11mm LCP composite driver, QuietSmart 4.0 hybrid ANC with five noise-reduction levels and a claim of up to 98% attenuation of low-frequency noise. They support Bluetooth 6.0, LDAC and LE Audio, connect to three devices at once and sit in a sub-$100 bracket.
Sleep tracking moved into earbuds as well. According to High-Tech Mag, Soundcore's Sleep Earbuds 4 Pro include a PPG sensor that measures heart rate and heart-rate variability overnight, while the charging case adds an AMOLED display for status checks and alarms.
TVs, projectors and light aimed at living rooms
Display makers used IFA to blend cinema performance with interior design.
High-Tech Mag singled out the TCL Designer 4K TV, model A400U, with an 85-inch QD-Mini LED panel, 4K resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate, plus Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and DTS:X support. Its shallow depth lets it sit flush against a wall, giving it the appearance of wall art.
For home cinema without a large panel, the same report cited XGIMI's Aura 3 Pro ultra short-throw projector. It uses RGB triple-laser technology for true 4K Ultra HD with IMAX Enhanced and Dolby Vision, and can fill a wall from less than a metre away.
Lighting played a supporting role. High-Tech Mag described the Govee COB Strip Light 2 Pro with a three-layer LED architecture for uniform color, a range from saturated tones to natural whites and synchronization to video content for movie-night ambience.
Networking, wearables and comfort tech
Connectivity and personal-comfort products emphasized multi-device homes.
High-Tech Mag reported that TP-Link's Deco 8 mesh system offers up to 22 Gbps wireless speed and 10 Gbps wired throughput. The tri-band Wi-Fi 7 system supports 8K streaming, and a three-pack can handle around 200 concurrent devices.
The same outlet described RayNeo's iO AI glasses, which omit a camera and instead provide live captions, translation and notifications on dual lenses, with a bone-conducting speaker for audio. Weight is just over an ounce.
For couples with different sleep temperatures, Gadget Review described the Moera Smart Climate Topper. A water circuit runs from an external control unit that heats or cools liquid delivered to channels beneath the sleeper, with a claimed swing of up to 22°F and independent zones. A replaceable cartridge treats the water, and a cycle clears residual moisture after use. It works with HomeKit, Alexa and Google Home with no extra app. According to that report, pricing was $799 on Kickstarter as a one-time purchase with no subscription.
TechRadar also flagged early Wi-Fi 8 discussion and UGreen's AI-led network-attached storage concept for the home, alongside Dyson's new HushJet fans and two new Dyson hair tools including a corded Corrale straightener with a cooling attachment.
Robots, vehicles and experimental concepts
Beyond shipping products, IFA 2026 featured concepts and large exhibits.
Gadget Review noted humanoid robots walking a catwalk, while Euronews reported humanoid robots playing football in the RoboCup competition.
TechRadar said Xiaomi showed an electric hypercar concept created for Gran Turismo and described as shaped by the wind, alongside SU7 and SU7 Ultra electric sedans. It also noted the Xiaomi 18 Fold as a shorter, wider foldable compared with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Experimental ideas in the High-Tech Mag roundup included Lenovo's Project Swan, a laptop that expands from a 14-inch display to a 17-inch 16:9 display at the press of a button. The same report described Dyson's $500 CameraJet toothbrush with AI-driven gap detection and a water-floss module that streams a live view to a smartphone, with a claimed 69% plaque-removal improvement over competitor models. It also cited Anker's eufyMake printer combining Direct-to-Garment and Direct-to-Film printing for small-business apparel production.
Together, the Berlin launches pointed toward automation that reduces daily friction, from laundry and dishes to translation, sleep and home networking, with many products positioned for European availability late in 2026 or as crowdfunding campaigns converting to retail in the following months.
